We recommend checking Skyscanner for the cheapest flights.

Occasionally Air New Zealand will offer tickets starting at $1 on their own discount website, Grabaseat. You can subscribe to receive notifications of their sales. They sell out quickly!

Auckland Airport

You might find it useful to download the Auckland Airport app. It has some maps of the terminals, deals for food, access to lounges and wifi.

Getting into the city from the airport

You have two options: taxi and the Skybus.

You can expect to pay at least $50 to get into the centre of town. Most taxi companies accept credit cards and eftpos cards, but it pays to check before you get in. Some good taxi companies include:

The other option is to take the Skybus. The cheapest option is to buy an adult return trip online for $30, but you can also pay by eftpos, credit card, cash at the airport booth, or AT Hop Card on the bus.

Transport around Auckland

In Auckland we have buses, trains and ferries. You will find it easiest to buy an AT Hop card from Britomart Transport Centre in Downtown Auckland, since these work across all three modes of transport. It is possible to pay in cash on some routes and at some stations; however, it is much easier to get around with a Hop card.

If you do intend to pay by cash, many bus drivers will not accept $20 notes or any higher denominations.

Once you are here, you can plan your trips with the Journey planner. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can use the AT Mobile app to see how far away the buses are.
